PURPOSE

Starmaker Theatre Company is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable environment where every child and young person can develop confidence, creativity and performance skills.

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected from all members and students. It aims to promote respect, safety, inclusion and enjoyment while protecting the welfare of everyone involved in Starmaker activities.

All members are expected to follow this Code whenever they attend or participate in any Starmaker activity, including:

• Stage School;

• Lamda classes;

• Summer School;

• Workshops;

• Rehearsals;

• Productions;

• Performances;

• Trips and visits;

• Online activities;

• Social events organised by Starmaker.

OUR EXPECTATIONS

All members are expected to:

• Treat everyone with kindness, respect and courtesy.

• Be welcoming and inclusive to others.

• Respect differences in culture, religion, disability, race, gender, sexual orientation and individual identity.

• Help create a safe, positive and supportive environment.

• Listen carefully to teachers, production team and volunteers.

• Follow instructions given by staff and production teams.

• Behave responsibly at all times.

• Take pride in being part of Starmaker

RESPECT FOR OTHERS

Members and students must:

• Treat everyone fairly.

• Use polite and respectful language.

• Encourage and support fellow members.

• Celebrate each other's achievements.

• Respect personal space and boundaries.

• Accept that everyone learns and develops at different speeds.

• Resolve disagreements calmly and respectfully.

Bullying, intimidation, exclusion or deliberate unkindness will not be tolerated.

BEHAVIOUR DURING CLASSES, REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES

Members and students should:

• Arrive on time and ready to participate.

• Bring any required clothing, scripts or equipment.

• Wear correct Starmaker uniform for section, and correct dance appropriate footwear at all times - no boots,loose or open shoes to be worn.

• Minimum jewellery: for example one pair of stud earrings, small nose stud, and simple necklace or bracelet, a watch or smartwatch.

• Participate positively in activities.

• Look after Starmaker property and venue facilities.

• Follow health and safety instructions.

• Inform a member of management committee or staff if they feel unwell or unsafe.

Members and students should never leave rehearsals, classes or venues without permission from a responsible adult.

SAFEGUARDING AND PERSONAL SAFETY

Members and students should:

• Tell a trusted adult if something worries them.

• Report bullying, unsafe behaviour or inappropriate language.

• Respect the privacy of others.

• Avoid behaviour that could place themselves or others at risk.

Members and students must never:

• Hit, push or physically hurt another person.

• Threaten or intimidate others.

• Engage in dangerous behaviour.

• Bring weapons or dangerous items to Starmaker activities.

• Bring tobacco, vapes, alcohol, illegal drugs or other prohibited substances to Starmaker

• Attend activities under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
   

 

BULLYING AND DISCRIMINATION

Starmaker Theatre Company has a zero-tolerance approach to:

• Bullying.

• Cyberbullying.

• Racism.

• Sexism.

• Homophobia.

• Transphobia.

• Ableism.

• Religious discrimination.

• Hate speech.

• Harassment.

• Deliberate exclusion.

Everyone has the right to feel safe, respected and included.

Concerns should be reported to a member of staff or the management committee.
 

 

MOBILE PHONES AND DIGITAL DEVICES

Mobile phones should only be used when permitted by adults in charge.

Members and students must not:

• Photograph or film others without permission.

• Share images of other members without consent.

• Use phones during classes or rehearsals unless instructed.

• Use devices to bully, intimidate or upset others.

Photography and filming must follow Starmaker's Photography and Filming Policy.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND ONLINE BEHAVIOUR

Members and students are expected to behave respectfully online.

They must not:

• Post abusive or offensive comments.

• Share confidential rehearsal information.

• Bully or harass others online.

• Share photographs or videos without permission.

• Pretend to represent Starmaker without permission.

Online behaviour that affects the safety or wellbeing of Starmaker members may be addressed even if it takes place outside Starmaker activities.

RESPECTING PROPERTY

Members and students should:

• Look after costumes, props and equipment.

• Return borrowed items promptly.

• Respect theatre venues, schools and rehearsal spaces.

• Report accidental damage immediately.

Deliberate damage may result in parents or carers being asked to contribute towards repair or replacement costs where appropriate.

 

ATTENDANCE

Members and students are expected to:

• Attend all regular classes unless otherwise unavoidable

• Attend all scheduled rehearsals unless otherwise notified in advance

• Notify Starmaker if unable to attend.

• Arrive promptly.

• Be collected on time after activities if applicable.

Regular attendance at rehearsals helps ensure productions run safely and fairly.

 

PERFORMANCES AND PRODUCTIONS

Members and students should:

• Support fellow students and cast members.

• Respect teachers, directors and production teams.

• Follow backstage instructions.

• Wear costumes responsibly.

• Remain in authorised areas.

• Behave professionally towards audiences, venue staff and visitors.
   

 

INCLUSION

Every member and student has the right to:

• Be treated fairly.

• Feel welcomed.

• Participate without discrimination.

• Receive respect and encouragement.

Members and students should support others and help ensure everyone feels included regardless of ability or background.

REVIEW

This policy will be reviewed every three years or sooner if required due to changes in legislation, guidance or the charity's operations.
